“We absolutely LOVED Act Alive's Spring Break Camp!!!
Our son had such an incredible time and gained so many skills in just one week.... confidence, social skills, ability to work as a team....not to mention how completely inspired he was. He came home each evening just glowing and was so sad when the week was over!”
- Michelle (Act Alive Mama)
“ It was SO fun! I loved the costumes and having Sass.
Most of the characters were sassy and I loved that. I made a lot of new friends.”
- Hunter (Miss.Hannigan)
5 days. 30 children aged 4-13. 4 Instructors. 1 Final Performance
That was the formula for a winning week of singing, dancing, acting, outdoor exploration and a crowd wow-ing show during Act Alive’s 2023 spring break performance camp.
It was also the first time we tried out a new format, essentially running two different age group camps out of two different rooms in the same building, working on one cohesive final production. This year’s theme was the classic comic strip turned Broadway Musical, turned movie story of Little Orphan Annie.
Brooke, who played Grace Farrell shared “ My favourite memory of the spring break show was playing Grace and singing NYC cuz I had my big solo in that song. I loved all the singing and dancing in the show and made a bunch of new friends.”
One of our favourite things about this format, is that it allows us all to warm-up together which bonds the group, before breaking into our respective age groups and learning separate songs and dances. Then when we come back together to weave the show together, both groups get to show and tell what they have been working on and inspire one another. The younger kids love getting a chance to work closely with the older group who they look up to, and the senior group are so sweet and caring with the younger kids that they sweep under their wings. During lunch and snack breaks, it’s so great to see the groups mingling and playing together and there is nothing like performing in a show together to cement these special relationships.
“I like camp it because I get to perform, make new friends and have fun! My favourite memory of Annie is learning the dance to NYC. Camp is different from regular class because we learn everything right away but also get to go outside and play. We also get to work with the younger kids who have so much energy and are very fun to work with.”
- Jorgia (Daddy Warbucks)
This year’s show was our biggest camp performance yet, with close to 100 parents, siblings, friends and family members cozying up in front of the stage at St. John Divine Anglican to watch the mesmerizing final performance.
Summer who played Rooster Hannigan exclaimed, “It was SUCH a good part! Other than my favourite thing which was the acting, I also loved going to the park. It was interestingly fun!”
This summer we look forward to offering 8 exciting weeks of camp, with four of those weeks following this format of running 2 simultaneous age groups together who come together for group work, free play, and the exciting final performance.
